Update on Rocky

Wednesday October 16, 2019  If you recall, Rocky had a pretty serious hernia and I opted to treat it here rather than put him through surgery.  He wore several different versions of a belly band until I figured out the best one.  I needed to keep an eye on it for slipping because he is a playful baby boy and does not exactly hold still. lol  I eventually settled on a layer of vet wrap topped off with a layer of elasticon, not too wide and just tight enough to stay in place.  (Vet wrap is at almost any farm store, elasticon is available from Amazon) Well I am happy to report that Rocky’s hernia is about 95% repaired and I’m confident that the rest will close on it’s own. He’s a tough little guy and the only alpaca here that is so used to having his belly touched that he doesn’t even notice! Yay for Rocky!

Photo of the day: He’s our little fighter. And look at how he loves his hay! I could watch that sweet little face chewing all day long.

He’s been tough from day 1 (trauma reminder!) What a cutie. Happy the hernia is healing nicely! So glad you had some R & R! Well deserved and I’m sure Ed did a great job taking care of things!
When do they stop being called cria? They always grow up too fast!

They go from cria to weanling to juvenile to adult. And it’s not really set in stone, a lot depends when they are weaned. I call them my babies for at least a year. 🙂
