Saturday August 17, 2018 The old ones grab my heart just as much as the bouncing babies. I’ve been privileged to offer many of them a quiet retirement home here with their friends and family until the very end. And because we do not support the meat market, we will be caring for these old souls for as long as they need us to. Their fiber isn’t the softest any longer, they can’t always keep up with the running herd but I think they’ve earned their retirement and although it might not be a wise business decision, it’s the way we do it here. I’ve heard all the arguments for using alpacas for meat and not one resonates with me. So here they are and here they’ll stay. The sales of soft yarn from the younger ones will help us feed these old souls.
Photo of the day: The oldest member of our herd is Queen Ester, born on July 4, 1997 which makes her 22 years old!
