Tuesday October 30, 2018 At Blue Moon Ranch we are surrounded by Aspen trees and they are amazing wonders of nature. They have small round flat leaves that tremble or “quake” at the slightest wind, and the sound they make is magical. They are also called Quaking Aspen or Quakies. They sprout new trees from one mother tree and a grove of Aspens is actually one organism. And they turn a beautiful yellow gold in Autumn. Except for this year! For some reason, one of our biggest Aspens is orange. The Latin name for aspen is ‘populus tremula’ meaning trembling poplar because the leaves of the aspen appear to tremble in the wind. In Celtic mythology this visual effect was said to be the tree communicating between this world and the next. Is there a message from this beautiful orange tree? (insert twilight zone music here) This was the year of the tree I said, when I planted 6 trees in honor of my recently deceased parents.
Photo of the day: Our orange beauty. If you notice, there are new trees that came from the orange one that have sprouted up next to the deck.
Just so you don’t think I photoshopped that color:
