Wednesday April 25, 2018 I wish I could stop it from happening but our alpaca herd and other animals are all aging. I consider it my privilege to care for them as they share their days here. Bonny, the oldest alpaca we have at 24 is slowing down and often stares blankly into space with her mouth open. I saw that look at the assisted living center when i visited my mom before she passed away! Bonny still runs for treats but rests most of the day. And dear old Teewinot – if you followed our growth from the beginning you’ll know that he was the stud who put us on the map. He hasn’t been interested in the girls for quite a while but he know he’s the only boy who gets to come into the hay barn for pellets. Grandma Betty the barn cat was here before we were – so we’re not sure how old she is, but at least 16, probably more. She has just in the past few weeks been asking me to pick her up – she NEVER wanted to be touched before, so I’m grateful for that. It seems she gets confused sometimes and loves it when I put her back by her heat lamp in the barn. I know the old ones won’t be with me forever so I cherish every day I have with them.
Photo of the day: Dear ol’ Teewinot comes into the hay barn for a bowl of treats every day. He’s 18. The other boys know he’s special. Bonnie often stares into space with her mouth open. Dear old Grandma Betty gets lost and cries for me to pick her up. Thank you to my son in law for capturing this moment last weekend.
