Sunday April 15, 2018 Many who breed alpacas are focused on the fleece, and I am to a degree as well. But what I love about the alpaca is the essense of the alpaca, the whole beast. I jotted down some of my thoughts this morning:
So much more than the fleece. I love
The way they look into your eyes with that all knowing gaze
They way they adore their babies
The way they know their name yet barely show it when you call them
The way they love to eat fresh grass.
The way they walk in a single file especially in snow or mud
The way they stick with each other
The way their curiosity overtakes them at times
The way mothers and daughters are such good friends
The way the babies run at dusk together
The way they can scratch their head so gently with a rear foot
The way they gently investigate a new kitten
They way they will hold a vigil for a dying friend
They way they mourn so deeply at the loss of a baby
The way the whole herd rejoices at the birth of a new baby
They way they listen to me when I talk to them
And yes I do love the fleece they produce!
