Tuesday December 19, 2017 Lately I find myself checking for fetal movement while looking at some of the girls. It’s probably too early to see anything but it’s fun to be looking again. Sometimes I never see movement at all, and one day there’s nose and toes poking out under her tail. Other times I can see babies “dancing” while they still have room to do so. I can tell you exactly which girl was bred to which male on which date, but predicting pregnancies is never easy with alpacas. We used to send in blood work, and do ultrasounds, but having found those methods make mistakes, we rely on behavior testing and time. As my late friend Rick once said, The only 100% positive pregnancy test for an alpaca is nose and toes appearing. I’m looking forward to lots of noses and toes in 2018. 🙂
Photo of the day: Zariah is one girl who I really think is pregnant. But only she knows for sure.
